MELAKA: Police have called on those who witnessed the recent vicious assault of a man by several others in Melaka Raya to come forward to assist investigations.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Afzanizar Ahmad said the Criminal Investigation Department was currently investigating the assault which took place in front of a pub in Melaka Raya and left the victim with serious injuries.

“We especially urge anyone who had recorded a video of the incident to come forward to assist police investigations. Such a video clip has since gone viral,” he said in a statement today.

It was reported that a video clip of the vicious attack went viral recently on social media websites.

The 51-second clip showed a man in a black shirt and jeans lying in the middle of the road being slashed, beaten and kicked by three men.

The victim was bleeding profusely from his head and hands as he tried to dodge the attacks from the three men who took turns to hit him.

One of the attackers repeatedly struck him with a stick, before another attacker slashed him several times using what appeared to be a long knife. The third man was seen kicking the back of the victim’s head repeatedly.

The video appeared to have been recorded by an onlooker in a car and a woman with a foreign accent was heard saying “Why police no come?”

The woman yelped as she watched the violent attack.

Afzanizar said the incident took place in front of entertainment outlet in Melaka Raya at 2am on Monday.

He said there had earlier been a misunderstanding between a group of drunk men. A tussle broke out in the pub and continued outside as the victim tried to escape.

Afzanizar said the victim, identified as a 29-year-old man from Semabok, has since been discharged from Melaka Hospital.

He added that four men, aged between 24 and 44, who were earlier arrested have since been released on police bail.
