Namewee releases heart-warming National Day-themed video on YouTube
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian rapper Namewee has released a National Day-themed video named Ali AhKao dan Muthu that features the things we love most about Malaysia - multiculturalism, friendship, harmony and food!
Namewee, who is infamously known for his controversial music videos, released the video on Saturday.
The six-minute-18-second video will likely warm hearts, make you smile and bring back happy memories.
Namewee collaborated with Alleycats vocalist Datuk David Arumugam and winner of "Ceria Popstar 2016" Aniq to create the music video, which tells the story of three friends named Ali, AhKao and Muthu.
The three singers even acted as Ali, AhKao and Muthu in the different stages of their lives.
Aniq acted as Ali the schoolboy, Namewee played the role of AhKao as a teen/youth, while David starred as an older Muthu.
The video opens with a joint birthday celebration of the three friends as they turn 60 and then takes a nostalgic turn back to the 1950s.
They are depicted as mischievous but jovial boys who often find themselves in trouble with their teachers and fond of skipping school.
It continues with the ups and downs they encounter upon entering adulthood such as moving to the city and struggling to hold down a job.
The Malay lyrics translates as: "We are Malaysians, regardless of colour and blood. There's only one dream and one country."
The video brings back memories of childhood joys such as cycling on the road, playing on the beach and collecting seashells.
It also highlights popular Malaysian food such as rojak, cendol and even bread with sugar.
The video also featured snippets of Malaysia's economic development, cultural diversity and sporting achievements.
The music video was uploaded on Namewee's YouTube page on Saturday and has since garnered over 472,000 views.
It is also listed as number seven on YouTube Malaysia's trending video list.
