ALOR SETAR: A bottle of petrol and some matches left at a playground proved tragic for one of two boys who found them.
They played with fire and one of them, Muhammad Naufal Zafran Mohd Zahirrudin, seven, sustained 30% burns to his back, waist, arms and face.
Padang Terap Acting OCPD Deputy Supt Amran @ Mohamad Zaki Omar said the boy’s father spotted him at the Taman Jelutong playground here at about 2.45pm yesterday with his pants shrugged off and burns all over his body.
“The father found the bottle still burning inside a nearby drain and the smell of petrol at the scene.
“Muhammad Naufal has been warded at the special burns unit of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.”
The father, Mohd Zahirrudin Zakaria, 41, said he believed the petrol, which was half-filled in a 1.5-litre plastic beverage bottle, and matches were left behind by some youths who frequented the playground.
Kedah Health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said the boy was in a stable condition.
