NILAI: The driver of a cloned car led a team of Road Transport Department (RTD) officers on a merry chase, and ended up causing a five-vehicle crash at the Arab-Malaysian Industrial Zone here this evening.
State RTD director Azrin Borhan said in the 5.15pm incident, three RTD officers had spotted a Honda Stream.
The car triggered the suspicion of the officers, and they ordered the car to stop.
However, the driver of the Honda, a man in his 30s, instead sped off. A pursuit then ensued.
"While trying to flee from the scene, the suspect's car hit another vehicle.
"This led to a total of five cars being involved in the accident. Among them was the RTD's SUV."
No one was injured in the accident.
After crashing his car, the suspect surrendered himself.
"We inspected the car and found that it was a cloned car using another vehicle's registration number. The car also didn't have an engine number," he said.
Azrin said a police report was lodged by the RTD officers involved in the accident. Further investigation on the cloned car will be conducted.
