Media Prima Group Bhd has announced several board changes with the appointments of Datuk Kamal Khalid as the new group managing director

KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Group Bhd has announced several board changes with the appointments of Datuk Kamal Khalid as the new group managing director while Farnida Ngah will be the new chief financial officer.

The integrated media group  announced on Friday that Kamal, 46, who is currently chief executive officer (CEO) of Media Prima Television, will be appointed to the post on Aug 2.

The current group managing director, Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin, will be redesignated as an executive director.

Kamal joined Media Prima on May 4, 2009, after serving as the head of the communications unit in the Prime Minister's Office from 2003.
Kamal also worked in the financial services sector in Kuala Lumpur, gaining experience in banking and private equity financing.

He also spent three and a half years at in the Policy and Development Division at the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now Bursa Malaysia). He also was an independent non-executive director of Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd from 2004 to 2009.

As for Amrin, he was appointed to the board of Media Prima on Sept 1, 2009. He held various positions within the group prior to assuming position the post as group managing director.

Media Prima also announced Mohamad Ariff Ibrahim is resigning as group CFO with effect from Aug 1 to pursue new challenges outside the group.

Ariff was appointed as group CFO on April 15, 2010. Prior to that, he was the CFO of New Straits Times Press since 2009.

Taking over as CFO will be Farnida, 40, who is currently group general manager, group finance and secretarial responsible for the group's financial, capital and funding management, a post which she was appointed to on March 1, 2016.

She oversees the group financial treasury, tax, performance reporting, finance operations, corporate finance and also served as a joint company secretary.

Farnida started her career with Media Prima as general manager, finance at its unit, Big Tree Outdoor Sdn Bhd in December 2009.  She then moved to the holding company in August 2012, as general manager, finance in charge of group financial reporting and tax planning.

She has more than 18 years of experience in the field of accounting, finance, business assurance and corporate advisory.

Prior to joining the group, she worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers for six years and subsequently spent for years with KPMG.  Her last position held was as a senior manager.

On Thursday, Media Prima announced the resignation of Datuk Seri FD Iskandar, as independent non-executive group chairman effective July 31, 2017, leaving the group that he has served in various capacities since 2009.

Following his resignation, Media Prima said Tan Sri Ismee Ismail would take over as chairman on Aug 1, 2017.

“Ismee is a highly respected corporate leader with vast experience in business and financial sectors and was appointed to the board of Media Prima on June 1, 2017,” it said.
