KLANG: Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who rammed a stolen car into the car used by a team of policemen in a bid to escape at Taman Selat Selatan, Pandamaran here.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Alzafny Ahmad said that the South Klang district police headquarters were informed of the incident at about 12.05am on Sunday at Lorong Selat Selatan 7, Pandamaran.
ACP Alzafny said the incident occurred when a team of policemen from the Klang and Pandamaran police stations followed a luxury car from the Jalan Banting crossroads towards Pandamaran at about 9.50pm on Saturday.
"When they arrived at Lorong Selat Selatan, the suspect stopped his car and reversed. The team of policemen exited their vehicle and introduced themselves as police to the suspect," he said when contacted on Sunday.
ACP Alzafny said however, the suspect suddenly rammed into the unmarked car used by the police team, which caused the police to fire a single shot in self-defence.
He said that the suspect also hit the gate of a house in his bid to escape, but the team of policemen managed to apprehend the suspect.
ACP Alzafny said that checks revealed that the suspect had 12 previous records for various offences while the car he was driving was reported stolen in Klang.
He added that checks on the vehicle showed that there was a gunshot mark on the front left tyre.
ACP Alzafny said that police and the suspect were not injured in the incident, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 307 for attempted murder.
