PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian woman has been abandoned at an airport in Chittagong by her Bangladeshi husband of five years.
The Dhaka Tribune today reported that Nur Sohafa, 45, went to Bangladesh with her husband to visit his village in Faridpur.
The couple were scheduled to return to Malaysia last Saturday after staying there for a month.
However, her husband, went missing from the airport along with all her documents including her passport.
Patenga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Kashem told the newspaper that the woman was walking around Chittagong's Shah Amanat International Airport aimlessly when the Immigration Police took her aside for questioning.
After explaining that her passport had gone missing along with her husband, the police sent her to court seeking directives regarding safe custody.
"She does not know the exact address of her husband's village home. The couple arrived in Bangladesh a month ago and was scheduled to leave on June 30 for Malaysia. They have been married for five years," it quoted Md Abdul Kashem as saying.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chakrabartya of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said the woman was produced before the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Harunur Rashid on Sunday.
She has been sent to a safe house while police are searching for her husband.
