JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained three Johor Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) officers and a cooking gas dealer for alleged bribery.
The three suspects aged between 30 and 50 years old are being investigated after allegedly accepting bribes from an unlicensed cooking gas dealer.
The three officers were detained at the Johor Baru and Kota Tinggi KPDNKK offices while the gas dealer was nabbed at his house in Kulai at around 8.20am.
Initial investigations showed that the money which was said to have been given as a bribe was deposited into a bank account belonging to one of the suspect's relatives before the money was transferred to the suspect's bank account.
The bribe was said to be inducement for the MACC to not take action against the gas dealer under the Supply Act 1961.
The case is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 which carries a jail term up to 20 years and five times the amount of the bribes involved.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azimi Alias confirmed the arrest and said the suspects would be charged on July 12 at the Johor Baru magistrate's court.
