Syed Zainal Steps Down As RHB Bank Director, Takes Up Petronas Job Tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR: Corporate figure Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir has resigned as director at RHB Bank Bhd, effective July 1, following his recent appointment as new vice president of marketing at Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).
The bank made the announcement today on Bursa Malaysia.
Syed Zainal, 54, who has an American civil engineering degree from the University of Maryland, began his career as a project engineer with Petronas Gas Sdn Bhd in 1987.
He then joined Petronas 1992 as the senior executive at the oil giant's corporate planning and international business development unit.
Syed Zainal, career moves included joining HICOM Holdings Berhad in 1995, where he assumed various senior positions in the company, followed by stints at PERODUA, starting as senior general manager there in 1999.
Other appointments included being executive director of Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn Bhd in 2002; deputy managing director of Perodua in October 2005; and managing director of Proton Holdings Bhd on Jan 1, 2006. He left Proton in May 2012.
Syed Zainal takes up his role at Petronas starting tomorrow.
