YONG PENG: The “Kari Kambing 40 Hari” restaurant located parallel to the North-South Expressway is attracting diners in droves.
It is especially popular with motorists taking the old Yong Peng-Ayer Hitam road.
The restaurant’s location is an added advantage as motorists driving by cannot miss the huge signboard.
According to the proprietor Anuar Abdul Aziz, 43, the number 40 is significant in Islam.
“Most of the prophets would face trials and tribulations for a period of 40 days,” he said in explaining the name of the eatery, loosely translated as 40-day old mutton curry.
It serves Middle Eastern rice dishes and even attracts customers from other states as well as Singapore.
“On average, we receive about 800 customers but this will double or triple during weekends and long public holidays,” said Anuar.

He said customers even queue up before the restaurant opens for business at 7.30am. It closes by 3.30pm.
Anuar said the favourite among customers was the mutton curry served with Middle Eastern rice. It is served on a large platter and is meant to be shared by up to four diners.
Siti Noor Afizi Saad, 34, said she did not mind travelling all the way from Muar to the restaurant to sample the mutton curry.
“I have eaten here more than five times.”
Anuar says customers triple during the weekends.
Noraini Abd Majid, 58, and her family of six came for the first time.
She gave the signature dish a thumbs-up.
“I hope to return soon,” said the housewife.
