NST

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained a Muar District Health Office administrative assistant for allegedly making RM109,930 worth of false claims related to non-medical supplies for health clinics over the past two years.
An MACC source said the 53-year-old woman was detained while giving her statement at the Batu Pahat MACC office at 3.30pm today.
Initial investigations revealed that the woman had collaborated with a contractor and borrowed the contractor's business licence to make the false claims of non-medical items for several health clinics in the Muar district in the end of November 2015.
"Out of the sum, RM93,440 was deposited into the woman's savings account while the remaining cash was paid to the contractor as a fee for lending her the business licence," said the source.
The woman is expected to be remanded at the Batu Pahat magistrate's court to facilitate investigations under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for false claims.
The offence carries a 20-year jail term and RM10,000 fine or five times the bribe amount, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate.
