KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata Group Bhd is extending for three more years the contract of its managing director/president and group chief executive Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim (pic).
The telecommunications group said in a statement that the service of Jamaludin, 58, who has helmed the group since March 2008 (the month prior to its public listing) would be extended from next month.
The former group CEO of Maxis Communications Bhd has turned Axiata into a “regional champion” with major mobile operations in eight countries and digital/Internet ventures and tower infrastructure services in many others.
Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, who has been Axiata chairman as long as Jamaludin has been in the current posts, said Jamaludin would continue leading Axiata “at this crucial moment”.
Among his tasks are to successfully oversee the turnaround of Celcom in Malaysia, the execution of XL new strategy in Indonesia, and the merger of Robi and Airtel in Bangladesh.
This is while “at the same time capitalising the great successes at most operating companies including edotco and Axiata Digital ventures,” Azman said.
“On top of that, Tan Sri Jamal will also continue with the transformation of the whole group into a digital champion and overcoming the disruptive forces affecting the telecommunication industry globally,” he added.
Axiata also announced yesterday the appointment of Vivek Sood as group chief financial officer (GFCO) effective April 3.
He replaces the previous GCFO, Thandalam Veeravalli Thirumala Chari, who retired at the end of December 2016.
Other members of Axiata’s senior leadership team whose contracts have also been extended are group chief corporate officer Mohamad Idham Nawawi, group chief HR officer Darke Mohamed Sani, group chief talent officer Datin Sri Badrunnisa Yasin Khan, and group chief corporate development officer Annis Sheikh Mohamed, group company secretary Suryani Hussein, and group general counsel and risk officer Tan Gim Boon.
