KUALA LUMPUR: A bus caught fire before the flames spread to six other cars parked nearby in Wangsa Maju.

City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani said they were alerted at about 3.54pm Thursday about the fire that occurred near the Aeon Big Shopping Mall in Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju, here.

He said that when firemen arrived at the scene, the fire from the bus had already spread to six other vehicles that were parked nearby.

Samsol said firemen managed to put out the fire at 4.28pm.



He added that there were no casualties reported in the incident.

Meanwhile, Rapid KL bus service operator Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd issued a statement confirming the incident.

The statement said the incident involved a bus that was on the T521 route from Sri Rampai LRT to Seksyen 10 in Wangsa Maju.

“The bus stopped suddenly and the captain could smell smoke. The captain immediately told all six passengers to exit the bus,” the statement said.

The statement added that all passengers were unhurt.

Rapid Bus urged the owners of the other vehicles damaged in the fire to contact it at 03-78852585 or email suggest@rapidkl.com.my for compensation purposes.The statement said Rapid Bus would fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate the cause of the incident and apologised for the resulting traffic disruption.




Damaged Vehicle Owners Get Redress From Rapid Bus



KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Owners of vehicles which were damaged when a Rapid KL Bus caught fire near the Aeon Big shopping complex in Wangsa Maju this evening can contact Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) for compensation.

Rapid Bus, in a statement Thursday, said the fire took place at 4 pm involving the T521 route bus (LRT Sri Rampai - Section 10 Wangsa Maju).

"Rapid Bus, the handler of Rapid KL bus service in the Klang Valley wants to confirm that a Rapid KL bus caught fire near the Aeon Big shopping complex in Wangsa Maju.

"The incident took place when the captain of the bus smelled smoke, stopped the bus and ordered the six passengers to disembark," said the statement. None of the passengers were hurt.

However, the fire had also damaged other vehicles parked near the burning bus.

"In this regard, Rapid Bus urge the owners of the affected vehicles to contact it via 03-7885 2585 or e-mail to suggest@rapidkl.com.my for the purpose of claiming compensation," it said.

Rapid Bus would also give full cooperation to the authorities to investigate the incident and losses.

"The safety and comfort of passengers are our priority in giving the best service. Rapid KL apologises over the incident which resulted in traffic disruption at the location," added the statement.
