KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 —Red Shirts leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos accused the police today of treating his movement like “anjing kurap” [mangy dogs] compared to Bersih 2.0 whom he said were treated like “anak emas” [golden child].
Jamal complained that the police had obstructed the Red Shirts at each location in their convoy and arrested three of their supporters, without acknowledging allegations of assault and thuggery thrown against his movement by the polls reform group during its nationwide convoy.
“The Bersih 5 group was not only well taken care of, but the police even accompanied the Bersih 5 convoy to a degree even greater than the Malaysian prime minister’s escort,” Jamal said in a statement.
“Merah V2 was stopped at almost every location and the police had ordered us to stop our convoy immediately. In fact, three Merah V2 supporters were arrested. Our treatment was completely different from Bersih 5,” added the Sg Besar Umno division leader.
Local daily New Sunday Times reported today that the police are identifying and searching for the Red Shirts who allegedly assaulted two Bersih supporters on motorcycles and threw eggs at them in Sabak Bernam, Selangor.
The NST also said Tawau police arrested a man over suspected links with a group that had damaged three vehicles from Bersih 2.0’s convoy in Sabah.
Bersih 2.0 accused the Red Shirts of causing serious injuries to a Bersih supporter, who was allegedly pulled off his motorbike, kicked and punched, to the point that he could have been killed.
The polls reform group is touring the country ahead of the Bersih 5 rally on November 19.
