Tengku Adnan wants stop to registering Parti Pribumi for using word 'Bersatu'

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (pix) wants the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to stop the approval of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia over the use of the acronym ‘Bersatu.’

The Umno secretary-general said the party should not use the word "Bersatu" as it is a common word that could mislead the people.

"He wants to establish (a new party) which is alright. But, he cannot use the word 'bersatu' as it is common.

"I urged the Registrar of Society … if they want to approve then go ahead but if it is possible tell them not to use the word 'Bersatu'," Tengku Adnan told reporters at Bukit Jalil.

He was commenting of former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who submitted an application to register Parti Pribumi last week.

Tengku Adnan, who is Federal Territories Minister, said the RoS should look into such issues before approving any new party or organisation.

He also questioned the registration of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in which the word Amanah is common and widely used.

"I also do not understand why (Amanah) was approved. Amanah is also ‘common’.

"Therefore, I hope the ROS director-general could look into this, where they are using words like this to confuse the public," he said.

Tengku Adnan said despite the emergence of the Umno splinter party, Umno would still be the people's choice.

He said Umno has gone through many ups and downs since its inception in 1959.

“We will in the end achieve success, that is my believe because Umno is a party that has focus, and is inclusive of other races," he said.
