Kota Baru Puteri Umno apologises over 'inappropriate dance' for VIPs at annual conference

KOTA BARU: Kota Baru Puteri Umno today expressed its apology and regret over what they deemed was an “inappropriate performance” at the opening ceremony of the wing’s annual conference on Saturday.

A dance performed by four women, which supposedly resembled belly dancing, took place in front of Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Tajuddin Rahman and several other VIPs from the state's party leadership.

Kota Baru Puteri Umno chief, Wan Salmiah Wan Ghani, issued an apology after a video clip of the performance, shared online, was lambasted by both party members and netizens.

“We admit that the performance was improper for the occasion. We truly regret what happened at the Umno annual meeting opening ceremony," she said via a statement issued last night.

Wan Salmiah gave her assurance that they will be more sensitive and not repeat the mistake in the future.

The clip, at two minutes and 33 seconds, was viewed almost 30,000 times since it was uploaded on YouTube on Saturday evening.
