Suspected IS supporter detained in Miri



The vehicle was first spotted around a shopping mall in the city centre on Tuesday morning.

MIRI: Miri police detained a suspected Islamic State (IS) supporter on Tuesday night (July 5).

“However, the 30-year-old suspect was later released on bail, as we are awaiting further orders from KL(Bukit Aman),” said the city police chief, ACP Junaidi Bujang to the Borneo Post via WhatsApp on Wednesday evening (July 6).

The suspect was picked up around 7pm on Tuesday in Piasau.

Also seized during the arrest was the suspect’s vehicle which allegedly had an IS logo displayed on its rear window.

“He is not an IS member, but suspected of giving or supporting the group…we are awaiting further orders to re-arrest and charge the suspect,” Junaidi pointed out.

The offence is being investigated under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code for knowingly soliciting support for or giving support to a terrorist group.


The vehicle has been seized and currently being placed at Miri central police station(CPS) compound.
