KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Syed Alman Syed Alwi, son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, died while undergoing dental surgery.
He was 44-years-old.
It is understood that he was undergoing surgery at a dental clinic in Bangsar and lost consciousness.
He was later brought to the University Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya.
A Home Ministry official, when contacted, confirmed the matter.
It is understood that Zahid is on his way back from Tokyo, Japan where he was on a working visit to attend the 34th Japan-Malaysia Economic Association (Jameca) and Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (Majeca) Joint Conference.
Syed Alman is married to Zahid's eldest daughter, Datuk Nurul Hidayah.
He was the founder of ICT company, iGen Technology Sdn Bhd. He was also Gerakan Belia 4B (M) Shah Alam Welfare and Education Fund (T4BUNG) chairman.
On her Instagram account, Nurul Hidayah shared a photo of her and Syed Alman, with the following message:
"Al Fatihah. Syed Alman Zain bin Syed Alwi. Great Papa. Responsible husband. I lost someone that I can argue with. Bye Sayang."
