JOHOR BARU: Police have detained a 31-year-old man for allegedly insulting Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim via Facebook.
Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man was detained at Taman Bukit Bendera, Mentakab, Pahang, following a police report lodged against him on June 2.
He was found to have uploaded a message which had insulted and offended Tunku Ismail through his Facebook account known as “Chong Choonhau”.
"Also seized were two tablets. The suspect will be remanded tomorrow (Saturday) at the magistrate's court here to enable police to complete investigations," Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said in a statement Friday.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or one year's jail, or both upon conviction.
