Mr Hall was kidnapped from an upscale resort on Samal Island last September with another Canadian, a Norwegian and a Filipino.
Mr Hall was the second Canadian hostage to be beheaded by Abu Sayyaf militants this year. John Ridsdel, a former mining executive, was beheaded in April.
A Norwegian man and a Filipino woman are still being held by the Muslim rebel group.
The Philippines government has condemned the execution in an official statement.

'We strongly condemn the brutal and senseless murder of Mr Robert Hall, a Canadian national, after being held captive by the Abu Sayyaf group in Sulu for the past nine months,' Philippines President Benigno Aquino said.
