All 21 tolled highways in the Klang Valley are expected to be fully electronic by the end of 2016, the Association of Malaysian Highway Concessionaires announced today.
Its president Datuk Zainudin A. Kadir said going fully electronic would boost efficiency and comfort for highway users.
"At manual collection toll booths, an average of 360 collections can be made per hour compared to 1,000 collections via Smart Tag," he told a media briefing today.
Zainudin said 10 toll plazas on four highways would only accept electronic toll payments starting noon on Jan 13.
Road users will need to use either the PLUSMiles, Touch 'n Go or SmartTAG at the toll plazas on the Maju Expressway (MEX), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga) and Kemuning Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA).
The toll plazas involved include Salak Selatan (MEX), Putrajaya (MEX), Seri Kembangan (MEX), PJS2 (NPE), PJS5 (NPE), Pantai Dalam (NPE), Batu 9 (Grand Saga), Batu 11 (Grand Saga), Seri Muda (LKSA) and Alam Impian (LKSA).
Once the enforcement of the cashless toll payment kicks off, he said Mex, NPE, LKSA and Grand Saga concessionaires would give a 10 per cent rebate to Class One vehicle users for two months, between Jan 13 and March 12.
On the fate of toll collectors once the highways going cashless, Zainudin said there would be no staff retrenchment.
Instead, he said, the toll collectors would be redeployed to other tasks at the toll plazas including handling customer services
