KUALA LUMPUR: A man was detained after he turned up at the Defence Ministry (Mindef) in Jalan Padang Tembak here, claiming he was carrying a bomb and was a member of the Islamic State terror group.
Wangsa Maju District police chief Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the 30-year-old suspect was detained at the guard post upon his arrival in a taxi.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was mentally unstable and claimed he had received the order from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to go to Mindef and meet important people at the Ministry.
"The taxi driver, who heard that the suspect was carrying a bomb, immediately jumped out of the taxi upon arrival at the guard post, while the suspect remained seated in the taxi," he said in a statement Wednesday.
He said a military intelligence officer managed to drag the suspect out of the taxi and took him to a room at the guard post.
Mohamad Roy said further checks on the suspect revealed that he was carrying a power bank, medicine, prayer beads, a pen, some coins and RM45 in cash in his bag.
"The suspect was handed over to the police and taken to the Tun Razak police station for further investigations," he said, adding all the items belonging to the suspect were seized.
The suspect, who did not have any crime record, was suspected to have stopped the taxi in Gombak at about 6 pm and asked to be taken to Mindef. - Bernama
