NIBONG TEBAL: A 43-year-old man was arrested for possessing four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in a raid conducted at Taman Tasik Mutiara, Simpang Empat here, yesterday.
The IEDs were found in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe, and is commonly known as a pipe bomb or pipe IED
In the 1pm incident yesterday, police also found four grams of 'syabu' in the suspect's possession.
Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) district police chief Superintendent Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the explosives were 20 centimetres long and seven centimetres width.
"The pipe bombs were believed to be used for blackmailing purposes and other criminal intentions.
"Police also found seven empty PVC pipes which were meant to be turned into pipe bombs," he told reporters today.
Wan Hassan said the suspect allegedly used gunpowder to make his home-made explosives.
Police have classified the case under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 8 of the Explosive Act 1957.
