17 nabbed following gang brawl, robbery

SHAH ALAM: Seventeen men have been arrested following Sunday’s brawl between two gangs in Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara.
The suspects, in their 20s, were detained at several locations in Damansara hours after the clashes, said Selangor CID chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah.
“Ten of them are from the gang that initiated the first attack while the rest belonged to another group.
“Right now, we are tracking nine more suspects to facilitate the investigation,” he said yesterday.
At about 5.10am on Sunday, a group of 10 men armed with parang allegedly attacked four men while they were fuelling up at a petrol station along the Damansara Link of the SPRINT Highway.
They allegedly ambushed the victims and used parang to slash and rob them. Three victims sustained injuries, but one escaped.
Later at about 9am, the police said a group of men linked to the victims from the petrol station attack went after those whom they believed were involved in the earlier robbery.
Another fight ensued outside a hotel in Dataran Pelangi Utama.
Two men were injured while three others managed to flee. The incidents are being investigated for rioting, robbery and causing harm.
The two fights, which occurred over the course of four hours, landed five people in the hospital.
It is believed that the attacks came about after a misunderstanding over a bet on an illegal motorcycle race.
