A man who defecated outside a woman's home said it was part of a black magic spell that would cause her to fall in love with him.

In May 2014, former military attache Muhammad Rizalman bin Ismail, 39, followed a woman home in Wellington, New Zealand, where he was working for the Malaysian High Commission, and as well as defecating outside, broke in without any pants or underwear on.

On December 30 Rizalman pleaded guilty to a charge of indecently assaulting Tania Billingsley, but on Friday answered questions about the incident at a disputed facts hearing at the High Court in Wellington, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Under cross-examination he told Crown prosecutor Grant Burston he believed in black magic, the defecation spell, and that he believed a superior officer had put a spell on him.

Rizalman, who had been working at the Malaysian High Commission as a staff assistant to the Malaysian defence advisor, agreed the reason he had not told anyone about the defecation was his embarrassment.
Burston said the defecation was the reason Rizalman 'took off [his] belt and lowered [his] trousers and underpants outside this young woman's front door on the patio'.A psychologist, Professor Graham Mellsop, told the judge Rizalman had been tested for faking and lying and results meant he did not always tell the truth and implied he exaggerated, Fairfax reported.

Mellsop said the only explanation for his actions came from taking drugs.
Rizalman admitted to purchasing synthetic cannabis but did not say he had used it.

He was also questioned about asking various women if they had boyfriends and wanted to go for a drink, and following another woman in a car, which he said he did not remember, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
He denied wanting to have sex with those women and women at a strip club he had visited.
Rizalman's lawyer, Dr Donald Stevens QC, said his client had been suffering from anxiety and people had noticed changes in his behaviour.
His reason for following Ms Billingsley home was she had smiled at him outside a shop and in his culture, smiling meant she wanted to get to know him, the New Zealand Herald reported.
After being arrested by police for the incident last year, Rizalman returned to Malaysia and it was reported he had claimed diplomatic immunity.
Later, a formal extradition request was sent by New Zealand and Rizalman agreed to return to face court.
