KUALA LUMPUR: A family of three, including a seven-month-old baby, was killed when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned after it was rammed by a speeding car at the 6th kilometre of the Duke Highway.
The impact of the crash resulted in 35-year-old Fairuz Nizam Husain, his wife Nova Safitri Azhari, 27, and their daughter Nur Firuza Annisa to be thrown out of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
Prior to the 1.05am, Saturday incident, the family had just attended a wedding in Putrajaya and was on the way back home in Batu Taman Batu Muda, Gombak.
Kuala Lumpur Staff Officer for Traffic Investigation and Regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam said investigations revealed that the family’s car was knocked from behind by a speeding Perodua MyVi when they attempted to change to the fast lane.
“The driver then lost control of his Pajero before swerving to the left lane and crashing into another MyVi.
“The victims’ vehicle overturned a few times.
“The driver died on the spot while his wife and daughter died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital during treatment,” he said, adding that the driver of the speeding MyVi escaped uninjured while the other driver suffered a minor injury.
According to several eyewitnesses, a few MyVis were also seen racing on the road before the collision took place.
When met at the mortuary, the family declined to comment on the incident.
The couple left behind two daughters - Nur Firuza Amira, 7, and Nur Firuza Akila, 3.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
