Police give green light for today’s GST rally

 

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have given the green light for today’s rally at Padang Merbok to protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.

He commended the organisers for following the proper procedure in getting permission to use the location for the Himpunan Derita Rakyat rally.

“This is what I have been saying about going by the law and getting permission for the rally.

“Don’t disrupt the traffic at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, or be a nuisance to the public and traders in the area,” he said, referring to previous rallies.

Special occasion: The 208th Police Day celebration at the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple in Brickfields.

Khalid said the rally-goers should be careful and not break the law while exercising their rights.

“We don’t want anyone to disturb the group in exercising their freedom of speech. We will also ensure their safety is not threatened by any other quarters,” he said.

Khalid was at the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple in Brickfields yesterday to present RM4,000 worth of donations to the temple and Ti-Ratana Welfare Society in conjunction with the 208th Police Day celebration.
