TAIPING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, have sent a letter of demand to Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming over alleged defamatory statements posted on Nga's Facebook account on March 29.
Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak represented the couple in delivering the letter to Nga at his office in Taiping at 3.35pm Friday.
The statements in question allegedly appeared in Nga's Facebook account uploaded in a status with a picture entitled, 'Nga Kor Ming: Siapa PM Malaysia Yang Sebenar? Jawab!' (Nga Kor Ming: Who is the Real Prime Minister of Malaysia? Answer!)
In the letter, the legal firm is demanding that Nga remove the status in his Facebook account and cease publishing further defamatory statements pertaining to the issue against Najib and Rosmah within 48 hours from Friday.
It also demanded that Nga issue a written unconditional apology and remove the alleged defamatory article, on its terms, within 48 hours from Friday.
Nga must also publish the said retraction and apology in a page and size to be approved by the couple in at least two national newspapers of their choice.
According to the letter of demand signed by lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun, the status was a very serious slander and/or libel against the legal firm's clients and has caused them tremendous distress and embarrassment.
It said allegations in the status were totally baseless, unfounded and very serious, as well as ill-intentioned to attack and damage the couple's goodwill and reputation.
Nga must nominate a suitable sum of compensation for the injury and damage occasioned to the couple and indemnify them of all costs and expenses incurred in the matter.
The letter further stated that legal action would proceed against Nga should he fail to respond within 48 hours. - Bernama
