Parliament today observed a minute of silence for the late Barisan Nasional Rompin MP Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis, who was killed in a helicopter crash on Saturday.
Led by Deputy Speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said, MPs stood and offered prayers for the former minister and ambassador to the United States.
"His death is a great loss to the country as he was a dedicated and capable leader. On behalf of Parliament, our deepest condolences to his wife Puan Sri Kalsom Ismail and his family," Ismail said before the minute of silence.
Jamaluddin was among six victims who were killed when the helicopter they boarded crashed in Semenyih on Saturday evening.
He was flying back back to Subang after attending the wedding reception of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's daughter in Pekan, Pahang.
He was laid to rest at the National Mosque mausoleum in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Other leaders remembered him as a "good man", while Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin acknowledged Jamaluddin's contributions to the nation with his various ministerial jobs.
"He was a friend and a leader that had contributed a lot to the country... his sudden departure is a loss for the country," he said yesterday.
The helicopter carrying six people crashed in a rubber plantation in Semenyih, Selangor, at 4.55pm yesterday.
Other than Jamaluddin, those on board included the principal private secretary of the prime minister, Datuk Azlin Alias, the pilot Clifford William Fournier, operations assistant Aidana Baizieva, businessman Datuk Tan Huat Seang and Jamaluddin's bodyguard, Razakan Seran. – April 6, 2015.
