From champagne to coffee, croissants to cakes, big breakfasts to eggs Benedicts, we at HungryGoWhere indulged our brunch addiction and scoured KL for some of the best brunches around!
Enorme
Malaysian-bred Italian restaurant, Enorme, is taking Centrestage in Section 13, PJ. Italian favourites like pastas and pizzas that range from size petite XXS to enormous XXL are the main focus but from 10am to 5pm daily, the restaurant dishes up a brunch menu with international flavours.
The Canadian (RM20) features a stack of fluffy pancakes with crispy bacon, whipped cream, and jam for a savoury-sweet delight. Baked eggs are not short at Enorme with The Tunisian (RM23), a baking dish filled to the brim with tangy tomato sauce, capsicum, meaty sausages, and topped with eggs with yolks threatening to burst at the slightest touch. It's delicious to have as is or to soak up with a side serving of crisp brioche slices.
J & D Espresso
Their piping hot baked eggs (RM29) comes topped with meaty Serrano ham filled with savoury flavours while the bacon and egg pancakes (RM21) are something a little lighter.
Crispy bacon and sticky maple syrup make for a delicious interplay of sweet and savoury while soft, fluffy pancakes readily soak up a perfectly poached egg. Herbed spinach adds a splash of green to an absolutely satisfying dish.
Kenny Hills Bakers
Go back to basics with the classic croissant (RM6). Perfectly fluffy, flaky, and fragrant, it's good enough on its own but a simple butter and jam combo does wonders (an extra RM2). Their buttery and crumbly scones (RM6) are equally as delicious.
Pair it with a strong cup of coffee (RM10) or a refreshing iced coffee tonic (RM12), which looks like any ol' iced lemon tea but magically tastes like coffee. If you love their stuff, you can even bring home a whole variety of loaves and artisanal peanut butter.
PULP by Papa Palheta
Run by Singaporean coffee boutique Papa Palheta, PULP's cosy warehouse-like space is filled with weekenders looking to catch up over a good cup of lava.
Pick from a selection of single-origin beans like Blue Batak (Sumatra), Karatu Estate (Tanzania) and more. A hand-brewed cup is RM12 while a cold brew Suke Quto (Ethiopia) is RM10.
Espresso-based coffees are made using house blends like the fruity Nuts + Bolts or chocolate-y Throwback. A variety of pies, pastries, cakes, and scones complete a brunch-time tête-à-tête.
Shook
Expect a live carving station featuring lamb on a spit, all the sashimi you can eat, and a colourful dessert table. And that's not even half of it!
Happening every Sunday from 12pm to 4pm, did we mention that you also get free-flow Moet & Chandon bubbly? Yup, for RM268++ per head, you can drink as much champagne as your body can handle! But if you're just in it for the food, it's RM168++ per pax.
Strangers at 47
If you like the big breakfast, go for the BBC (RM23), which puts a crepe-themed twist on a crowd favourite. A sunny-side-up, crisp hash brown, diced chicken chorizo (Spanish sausage), and subtle sauteed greens are paired with a light and fluffy wholemeal crepe.
Their sweet selections are equally as inventive. The Red Riding Hood (RM11) features a decadent red velvet-flavoured crepe with a cream cheese filling and an extra crunch from crushed coffee beans. Sweet or savoury, Strangers at 47 guarantees a crepe-tastic brunch!
The Good Batch
Check out the cheekily named The Angmoh (RM25.90), which is a full-on big breakfast with (deep breath!) scrambled eggs, beef bacon, chicken sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, baked beans, and toast. Or maybe The Norwegian (RM21.90), alluding to the smoked salmon paired with capsicum and onion confit for their take on eggs Benedict, might better tickle your fancy.
Complete the meal with a side of freshly-made chilled drinks like the tangy citronne presse (RM10.50) and brunch is sorted!
The Lobby Lounge
That's not all, you can pile on premium offerings like foie gras, lobsters, and Fine de Claire oysters. As for desserts (or pudding as the British would say), there's anything from macarons and tarts to truffles and a chocolate fountain. Opt for free-flow champagne at RM350++, otherwise it's RM140++ per person.
The Red Beanbag
The coffee counter is helmed by Jason Loo, winner of the Malaysia Barista Championship 2015, so rest assured you're in good hands. If you've got a big appetite, look to the 'Dark Side' of their menu which features heartier dishes like their signature baked eggs (RM20).
Runny eggs cracked into a dish of lamb bratwurst, sun-dried tomatoes, potatoes, and topped off with stringy cheese, a side of crusty bread sits ready to soak up all the gooey goodness. From the 'Light Side', there's the French toast (RM15), coated with crunchy toasted almonds and sweetened by a drizzle of maple syrup and seasonal fruits.
VCR
Ground-level views of the KL city skyline are permeated with the inviting smell of coffee and a tempting display of cakes. Elvis-inspired The King (RM12) is a bestseller, an indulgent chocolate banana combo topped with a peanut butter frosting with a layer of peanut bits as its crowning glory.
If you're hungry, the potato waffle is a satisfying option. Made with russet potatoes, a perfectly done 63° egg in a bed of mushroom fricasse and herb salad dares you to slurp it right up!
Didn't think we'd give you just 10 places, did you? Head on over here for even more brunch-tastic options! — March 23, 2015.
