PETALING JAYA: Two senior MIC leaders confirmed that they have received suspension letters from party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.
Former strategic director Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari and ex-youth leader Datuk T. Mohan both issued statements confirming this yesterday.
They claimed that the letters also contained various allegations against them.
In his statement, Vell Paari demanded that Palanivel prove all the allegations against him within seven days, adding that he would be referring the matter to his lawyers.
“All allegations and content of this letter made against me are false and malicious. If he proves the allegations, I will immediately resign from MIC. Failing which, I will not ask him to resign from MIC because as per Article 91 (of the MIC Constitution), he ceased to be a member when he went to court,” he said.
He was referring to judicial review applications filed by Palanivel and four other MIC leaders against the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over a directive for the party to hold fresh elections.
Vell Paari claimed that as this was done without the consent of the MIC’s central working committee (CWC), it had gone against the party’s constitution and by doing this, Palanivel ceased to be a party member.
On Thursday, Palanivel had announced the suspension of five party members for being involved in an alleged attempt to “take over” the party headquarters.
T. Mohan, who received the letter on Wednesday, said he would be lodging a police report.
He said the RoS, in instructing the party to hold elections for all levels of the party, had stated that all existing positions were null.
“He has no right to issue a suspension or enforce any provision under the MIC Constitution as he has ceased to be even a normal member.
“Thus, I shall ignore the letter of suspension with pride and dignity and I shall continue my efforts of reforming the MIC.”
