Malaysian Police Ops Cantas Khas Selangor - 1,649 Arrested within 2 weeks

A total of 1,649 (of 28,690) persons checked were arrested during the recent Ops Cantas Khas Selangor which was conducted for 14 days.
Of the 1,649 persons, 593 were arrested on crimes committed, 245 for drug offences, 156 were involved in gambling cases and 223 for sex crimes. 289 others committed immigration offences, 6 in human trafficking, 6 were on "wanted" lists and 131 for other kinds of cases.
The operation began on 22 February 2015 and involved officers from The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as well as the Selangor police contingent.
The operation was conducted to curb the activities of gangsters / 'samseng' who often stir trouble and threaten the peace in Selangor. The operation also gave focus on gambling and sex crimes.
The director of PDRM's CID, CP Dato’ Sri Mohmad b. Salleh said that RM 112,131.00 worth of items were seized during this Ops Cantas Khas mainly from gambling and prostitution activities. The value of items seized from the other areas targetted amounted to the value of RM 825,695.00.
Compared to the previous Ops Cantas in the state, there has been a drop in the Selangor crime index by 18%, from 1,451 cases to 1,177 cases. As the operation was successful, PDRM plans to hold similar operations in other states.
