IPOH, March 5 — A three-year-old girl died after being allegedly abused by her caretakers at their home in Klebang Jaya.
Nor Saraniya Abdullah was pronounced dead at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Nor Saraniya’s father, Mohamad Hajimeer Dollah, 34, a lorry driver in Gua Musang, claimed he and his wife Halimah Abdullah, 38, were out of town when the tragedy occurred on Tuesday evening.
Hajimeer, originally from Buntong, said his wife alerted him about their daughter’s death at 5.10pm.
“I couldn’t believe it. I told her repeatedly not to lie to me but she swore it was true. I took a taxi to Cameron Highlands and hitched a ride to Ipoh,” he said.
“When I arrived home at about 8pm, the ambulance had already taken my daughter’s body to the hospital.”
Hajimeer said he was told by a forensic department staff member that based on the marks on her body, Nor Saraniya may have been abused.
“When I saw my daughter, I noticed bloodstains on her mouth,” Hajimeer said.
“I saw her face but I was not able to see her body. I was told there were bruises and welts all over. I was also told her arm was fractured.
“They told me the injuries pointed to her having been abused in some way.”
Hajimeer said he placed Nor Saraniya and his eldest son, Muhammad Darven Raj, six, under the care of the four caretakers at the behest of his wife, who had befriended one of them about three years ago.
His other daughter was placed under the care of her grandmother.
Hajimeer said he began to have doubts about the caretakers when Darven once complained he had been tied up by them.
“My son also claimed they would not feed him until he gave one of them a massage or did some work for them,” he said.
“He also had bruises on his body, but it wasn’t as bad as what happened to my youngest.”
Hajimeer said the caretakers told him Nor Saraniya fell off a double-decker bed while trying to catch a lizard.
“I don’t believe that. From what my son told me, I think something else occurred but I will wait for the investigation,” he said.
Ipoh police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said police were looking into the case but Nor Saraniya’s cause of death had yet to be determined.

Her death follows on the heels of two cases here in which two children sustained injuries under the watch of their caretakers.
One case involved a 10-year-old boy allegedly abused by his relatives in Bukit Merah.
He was left by his parents at a relative’s house on Feb 3. When his parents visited him last Saturday, they found him in a terrible condition and was believed to have been hit with a metal cable.
The boy is under intensive care at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital. Police said a 31-year-old man, who is the boy’s relative, had been remanded for investigation.
The other case involved a 13-month-old allegedly scalded while he was under the supervision of a daycare centre in First Garden on Feb 23.
