BUKIT MERTAJAM: A Bangladeshi suffered burns all over the body when he was set ablaze by an Indonesian woman at a construction site near Pasar Awam Kampung Baru here Wednesday.
Witnesses rushed to the contract worker's rescue and sent him to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital where he was warded in a stable condition.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the police detained an Indonesian woman, in her 20's to facilitate investigations.
He said at about 7.50am, the victim, in his 30s, and a compatriot was travelling on a motorcycle to work at the construction site when upon arrival, a woman confronted them.
"The woman allegedly splashed what was believed to be petrol on the Bangladeshi, lit a piece of cloth and hurled it in the direction of the two men," he added.
Rusli said while the victim ended up with multiple burns, his friend managed to flee from the scene.
He said witnesses apprehended the alleged assailant and handed her over to the police. - Bernama
