Sir Alex Ferguson couldn't watch as Man United lost to Sunderland at Old Trafford for the first time since 1968
Manchester United proved that their problems run deeper than just the manager by losing 1-0 to Sunderland at Old Trafford. It marked the first time they've lost to Sunderland at home since 1968 — a fact made even more disappointing since Man United beat Sunderland with David Moyes earlier this season.
Man United's 12th loss of the season proved too much for Sir Alex Ferguson to watch. After Sebastian Larsson scored for Sunderland in the 30th minute, Ferguson was caught on camera either sleeping, playing with his phone or simply hanging his head in shame. Cue the sad Charlie Brown music...
A 4-0 win over relegation bound Norwich in Ryan Giggs' first game in charge briefly renewed hope for Man United, but the feel-good factor of a trusted (but inexperienced) face in the technical area didn't last too long. As a result, Sunderland were able to add their name to a list of clubs who have achieved rare victories at Old Trafford. Newcastle got their first win there since 1972, West Brom got their first since 1978, Everton got their first since 1992 and Swansea got their first league win at Old Trafford ever.
It's been a season full of Christmases at Old Trafford and none of the gifts have been for the home side.
