DRIVING GROWTH: Authorised Economic Operator status allows faster Customs clearance
BEIJING: MALAYSIA has granted Huawei Technologies Ltd Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status, as the Chinese tech giant moves to further expand its Malaysian operations, company officials said yesterday.
The status, which will shorten Customs clearance to just two days from five days, was announced during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's visit to a Huawei facility near here.
The AEO scheme allows speedy and secure movement of goods, minimal documentation and minimal human intervention and predictability of Customs processes.
Najib, who earlier had talks with company founder Ren Zhengfei and top company management, also sought more Huawei investments in Malaysia.
He also visited the newly opened Huawei Exhibition Hall.
Huawei, set up in 1987, currently operates in 170 countries. Its annual revenue hit US$40 billion (RM128 billion) last year, with more than 70 per cent from overseas operations. Most of its 150,00 staff are involved in research and development.
Malaysia is Huawei's regional headquarters, which oversees operations in Asean and Australia.
Huawei is also building its regional hosting and logistics centre in Iskandar, Johor.
