KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan police have launched a massive hunt in effort to trace and arrest another 36 out of 38 suspects who allegedly raped two Form Two students in an abandoned house in Ketereh last week.
Two of the suspects, aged 25 and 30, were arrested when one of the victims identified them while seeking protection at a nearby village.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department deputy director Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said the suspects were nabbed on Monday by the Kota Baru criminal investigation division.
"With the arrest of the duo, police have mounted a massive operation to hunt down the remaining 36 suspects, aged between 20 and 40," he said yesterday.
Amar Singh said the suspects were being remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations.
In the 7.30pm incident last Tuesday, the victim had called a schoolmate to pick her up from Ketereh.
The friend had asked a male companion to pick both of them on a motorcycle.
The male companion called another man in Ketereh, who lured the victims to an abandoned house where they were quickly trapped by around 40 men.
All the suspects were reported to have raped and assaulted the girls in turn while the male companion was forced to watch.
