KUALA LUMPUR: Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) is seeking RM100 million in compensation from Cadbury following alleged finding of porcine DNA in two of its chocolate products.
JMM president Azwanddin Hamzah said a task force comprising 79 Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs) nationwide would be formed today to gather the names of those who needed legal help from an NGO, SukaGuam.
Azwanddin said SukaGuam was expected to file the suit next week.
He said if Cadbury could not pay the sum, the management should close its operation in Malaysia.
He also said Jakim and the Health Ministry should apologise over the matter "as the products have been in the market for several months".
SukaGuam national director Ahmad Zuhairi Ahmad Pu'aat said legal action could be taken against Cadbury under Section 50 of the Consumers Protection Act.
"Consumers need to keep their receipts so that it will be easier for SukaGuam to help them."
