Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said a thorough investigation should be conducted into Umno Youth for threatening to burn the DAP headquarters early this week.
In condemning the protesters' actions, Hishammuddin, said that the perpetrators should have acted with wisdom and sensibility.
"I don't think it's proper, and I advise that they investigate (the incident). Don't go on emotions," Hishammuddin told a press conference after a walkabout with Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Teluk Intan Datuk Mah Siew Keong today.
"In today's situation, especially when you have the social media, unsubstantiated information will spread. So you should not react emotionally," he added.
Armed with banners, some 50 Federal Territory (FT) Umno Youth members protested in front of the DAP headquarters in Jalan Yew in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday before handing over a memorandum to party strategist Dr Ong Kian Ming.
They had threated to burn the building and DAP leaders claimed the mob had destroyed the party’s signboard.
The mob was reacting to DAP assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer’s “Umno celaka” (Umno be damned) remarks at the Penang legislative assembly sitting on Tuesday.
Hishammuddin said it was vital for all quarters to control their emotions and act only according to facts.
“It is our mature leadership that had in the past gone beyond race and religion which differentiates us from other places like Bangkok… where 28 people are dead and the army is now in charge.
"We should consider these things. Make sure when they do take action, it is based on facts... if we don't control our emotions, ultimately, we will be worse off.
"Look what happened in Vietnam. The collision between a Chinese ship and Vietnamese ship led to burnings and bodies scattered across the street."
He added that the investigation should look into who was the mastermind of the Umno Youth protest.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on whether he believed BN leaders' campaign promises in Teluk Intan were tantamount to graft, Hishammuddin said that was a legal matter.

He said those unhappy with BN's tactics should bring the matter to the courts.
"At the end of the day I think voters are mature enough to decide who is going to bring development to this area.
