POLICE RESCUE 16 YEAR OLD KIDNAPPED VICTIM

Cops nab four suspects, rescue kidnap victim

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained four individuals, including a local woman, suspected of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl in the city on April 23.
Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Junaidi Bujang said the suspects, between 19 and 28-years-old, were arrested at the south bound Sungai Buloh rest area of the North-South Highway, about 11.30pm on May 1.
In a statement on Sunday, he said the suspects were apprehended by a patrol team who came across a suspicious looking car at the rest area's parking lot.
"The driver of the car initially refused to cooperate when told to stop so the police car had to block his way.
"One suspect suddenly pointed a gun at the policeman who got out of the patrol car and rammed the car into him.
But the policeman, who sustained injuries on his leg, managed to fire two shots at the suspects' car tyres, he said.
Junaidi said following the arrest police found the victim safe and sound in a house in Taman Damai, Air Tawar in Perak about 6.30pm on May 2.
He said the parents of the private college student had lodged a police report on April 24 after she failed to return home from classes the previous day.
"Four days after the police report, her father received a text message from the suspects demanding a ransom of RM10,000," he said.
The case has been classified under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, caning, fine, upon conviction. - Bernama
