IPOH: MCA has commended former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for stepping up to tick off Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) over their insensitive remarks that Chinese who came to Malaya were trespassers.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the former Umno president had came out strongly to oppose Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdullah Rahman and urged the latter to show more respect to the people.
"Racial extremism should be condemned. Isma's statement is uncalled for and it will hurt the country and I commend Tun for ticking them off," he told journalists after a close-door meeting with Perak MCA members here on Saturday.
"Everyone should condemn Isma's remark and I also urge the police to take action against them," he added.
Dr Mahathir had on Friday told Abdullah Zaik to keep his remarks to himself as it would not help the country.
He stressed that the Chinese citizens in the country were also Malaysians who also have their rights.
On MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon's remark that Umno should not remain silent on PAS's plan to implement hudud in Kelantan, Liow said it was the duty of Pakatan Rakyat to stop them from doing so.
"Umno has been very sensitive in racial matters. They have shown the spirit of Barisan Nasional to ensure the country is peaceful.
"It is however sad to see DAP trying to wash their hands, by pushing the responsibility to other parties," he said.
"In the last general election, they were working so hard to gain support from the people. They are not showing any effort to stop PAS from tabling the bill now," he added.
PAS has planned to table the Private Member’s Bill in the Dewan Rakyat next month for hudud to be implemented in Kelantan,
"PAS should not play with fire. They should respect the Federal Constitution and its multi-racial people," Liow said, adding that he was concerned about the present situation whereby racial extremism was on the rise.
"It is against the Federal Constitution and against the interest of the nation by ignoring other races' rights and creating confusion," he added.
Liow also said that a committee to safeguard the Federal Constitution has been formed.
The committee, he said, would be headed by party deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong to galvanise the people's strength and support to safeguard the Constitution

BESTFBKL- DONT UNDERSESTIMATE THE SILENT MAJORITY WHO SUPPORTS AND LOOKS UP TO TUN DR. MAHATHIR. ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ON ISMA AND ITS OFFICE BEARERS.
I URGE THE IGP AND AG TO PICK THESE PEOPLE UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS EVIDENCE IS EASY TO GATHER AS ALL STATEMENTS WERE MADE IN THE PRINT AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA
