PETALING JAYA: A policeman was forced to fire four warning shots in the air to disperse a violent gangfight, after one of the suspected gang members had shot and killed another during the skirmish.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat said Corporal Jalil and Lance Corporal Rozahan were on patrol at Taman Sentosa, Klang when they came across the two groups of men fighting near Jalan Dato Abdul Hamid at around 1.50am here Tuesday.
"The men were fighting using machetes and motorcycle helmets as weapons.
"One of them then pulled out a gun and started shooting at his rivals, and the policemen intervened," he explained.
ACP Kamarul Zaman said that the deceased, M. Ganeson, was shot in the chest by the gunman during the fight.
Upon noticing the presence of the two policemen, the gunman started shooting at the officers, he said.
"L/Kpl Rozahan took cover before firing four warning shots in the air to disperse the fight.
"One suspect was apprehended while the others fled in a black Proton Perdana," he added.
The suspect was identified as G. Rajasekaran, 29, who had a previous criminal record.
Ganeson, along with two wounded men, were rushed to Hospital Klang.
All three did not have previous criminal records.
