Stern action against operators who increases food prices : Najib

KUALA LUMPUR : PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has directed the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry to take stern action against any business operator who raises food prices at their premises.
He said this will include charging them with the current laws and acts.
“If they are found increasing their prices, the government will not hesitate to take action,” he said.
Najib added that this was to ensure the people feel comfortable and at ease, especially with the current goods price hikes.
He said this at a dinner with hundreds of cooperative members of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) at Putra World Trade Centre here.
The dinner was organised to express Kimma's appreciation for Najib and Barisan Nasional’s undivided support for the Indian Muslim community in the country.
Present were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, KopKimma president Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Nizam and Kimma president Senator Datuk Syed Ibrahim Kader.
They were entertained to a multimedia presentation, singing and cultural dance performances.
Najib also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between KopKimma and Bank Rakyat.
He said the government, in support of the establishment of KopKimma’s first Ar-Rahnu franchise, has promised to channel RM1 million to the cooperative.
“The government supports the effort by KopKimma to have their first Ar-Rahnu outlet near Masjid India soon,” said Najib.
