Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Denies Block On BBC's #Kangkung Article

/Says.com/Says.com"IT seems like the block has been lifted. From my test, the article can now be accessed through TM’s DNS and Google DNS."
Internet users in Malaysia reported difficulty accessing the specific BBC post beginning late last night, with timeouts occurring after a long wait for the page to load, while the rest of theBBC site remained accessible.
The block seemed to have been lifted at noon today.Meanwhile, in a statement to The Malay Mail Online, industry regulator the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) denied it was responsible for the block.
When referred to this article, he added, “As I said, to my knowledge no. MCMC nak block macam mana? (How can the MCMC block it?)”
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it had not blocked nor instructed any Internet service providers to block a BBC online report.
Its Strategic Communications senior director Sheikh Raffie Abdul Rahman said in a statement Friday that based on MCMC's initial assessment, the report was accessible to internet users.
"We understand that there could have been some temporary difficulties in accessing it, but at the time of this statement, this disruption has been resolved," he said.
He said MCMC had not received any official complaints from the public regarding difficulty in accessing the report.
"We would also like to refute earlier reports in the media that misquoted MCMC as saying that 'various Malaysian service providers could have acted on their own accord'. This misreporting is a serious matter," he said.
Sheikh Raffie said Malaysia's online environment was free and one of the most robust and critical in the world.
"MCMC and the Malaysian government are committed to ensuring our online media remains vibrant.
"We have always promoted self-regulation and responsibility by Internet users rather than using the law," he said. - Bernama
