GOMBAK: Police have arrested two men for robbing a couple and raping the female victim in Rawang town yesterday morning.
The suspects, aged 25 and 37, had allegedly impersonated policemen when they "raided" a hotel room that the victims were in about 6pm on Saturday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the suspects identified themselves as police officers to the couple and threatened to arrest them for vice activities.
One of the suspects then took the male victim outside, claiming that he wanted to escort the victim to a police station.
"The second suspect then raped the female victim before robbing her of her belongings. The other suspect returned and also raped the victim," he said, adding that the male victim was driven to a secluded spot and abandoned.
Rahim said the male victim returned to the hotel room the next morning with real policemen after realising that the suspects were bogus officers.
He said the male victim was robbed of RM500.
The female victim, 18, was sent to Selayang Hospital for a check-up.
Police managed to identify the suspects from closed-circuit television camera footage at the hotel.
The suspects were detained at a security guard's post in Taman Setia, Batu 16 in Rawang by officers from the Gombak Criminal Investigation Department unit and Rawang Crime Prevention Team about 2.30am yesterday.
Police seized a packet of methamphetamine, a handcuff key, six handphones, including those taken from the couple, and 17 SIM cards.
A Honda Wave motorcycle used during the crime was also seized.
On Op Cantas Khas conducted by the district police headquarters from 10pm on Sunday until 4am yesterday, Rahim said nine men were arrested for various offences, including for suspected involvement in triads and voluntarily causing hurt.
He said police raided eight houses, an entertainment outlet and seven locations frequented by suspected criminals, besides issuing 23 summonses for traffic offences.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the operation conducted in the state yesterday morning saw two gangsters and a wanted criminal arrested.
He said 465 police officers from 85 police stations conducted 123 roadblocks statewide and performed checks on 4,432 people and 3,383 vehicles.
Police issued 355 summonses for traffic offences.
