BABY GIRL LEFT UNDER CARE OF BABY SITTER, IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER SUSPECTED ABUSE

SHAH ALAM: A six-months old baby girl is in critical condition at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, after suffering from breathing difficulties and falling unconscious while under the care of a babysitter.

It is learnt that the baby has fractured skull and internal bleeding in the brain.

South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamad Mat Yusop said the girl's father, Mohd Sharil Ahamad, 28, had said that the child had been sent to the same babysitter since four months ago.

"The baby's father complained that during the four months, Nur Sofea had suffered abrasions on her forehead, apparently due to carpet friction when she was lying on the carpet.

"There was also a bruise on her forehead last Thursday, which the babysitter claimed was caused by a milk bottle accidentally falling on her head," he said.

He added that the police had recorded the statement from the babysitter who was expected to be remanded tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the parents were too distraught to speak to reporters at the hospital.

However, the girl's grandmother, who only wanted to be known as Umi, said the babysitter was known to the family as she was the wife of Mohd Sharil's colleague's.

"This is totally unexpected because the babysitter is someone the family knows," the 61-year-old woman said.

She added that the couple had been paying the babysitter RM300 per month.
