KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained a couple in their 50s in Jalan Pahang, here, on Tuesday for allegedly abusing their 10-year old son.
City police deputy CID chief Assistant Commissioner Khairi Ahrasa said the suspects, who run a business for a living, were picked up at their house to facilitate investigations.
He said the abuse case was reported by the victim’s school headmaster on Aug 28, after teachers saw extensive injuries on the boy’s body, limbs and mouth.
“Initially, after seeing the boy’s injuries, the school administration called for his parents to get their side of story on what had happened. They admitted to have beaten the boy using a cane.
“However, after the meeting, the parents continued to abuse the victim at home - punishing him for reporting them to the school authorities.
“We have sent the boy for medical check-ups - he was found to have injuries on his body, both hands and legs, mouth as well as suffering pain on his head. He was also traumatised,” Khairi told a press conference held at the city police headquarters here today.
He said the parents are being remanded to facilitate investigations under the Child Act 2001.
