KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Izzat Mohd Abdul Hakim, the teenage superbike rider who was involved in the tragedy that killed a safety marshal at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), has died.
The 17-year-old died of injuries at about 1pm Wednesday at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
He participated in the SIC Ninja Cup programme this year and had been racing competitively since 2006.
In the Saturday incident, Muhammad Izzat collided into safety marshal Satish Suppiah at about 12.30pm before the end of the morning practice session. Satish died on the same day.
This was the second fatal incident at SIC following the death of MotoGP racer Marco Simoncelli, who was killed in a crash during the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix.
SIC in a statement said Muhammad Izzat died from multiple head injuries he sustained.
In expressing condolences, SIC said his death was a great loss as he showed huge potential in becoming a great rider in the future.
