6-month old suspected abuse baby dies
KLANG: Suspected abuse victim, six-month old baby Nur Sofea Insyirah Mohd Shahril who was warded in critical condition after falling unconscious while under the care of a babysitter on Wednesday, died at about 2.20pm today.
Nur Sofea died without regaining consciousness after spending four days at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang,HTAR’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
It was reported that the babysitter had told the victim’s father Mohd Shahril Ahamad, 28, that the girl had fallen unconscious at about 10am on Wednesday.
It was later discovered that the toddler had a fractured skull and internal bleeding in the brain.
South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamad Mat Yusop when contacted, said further investigation would be conducted as the case was formerly investigated as an abuse case.
“Our Sexual/Children Crime Investigation Division (D11) will change their investigation according to the appropriate section with this latest development," he said.
At the same time, a HTAR source said the cause of death could only be determined after the post mortem is completed.
Earlier, the victim's father complained that during the four months under the babysitter’s care, Nur Sofea had suffered abrasions on her forehead, apparently due to carpet friction when she was lying on the carpet.
There was also a bruise on her forehead last Thursday, which the babysitter claimed that it was caused by a milk bottle accidentally falling on her head.
Her grandmother, who only wanted to be known as Umi, said the babysitter was known to the family as she was the wife of Mohd Sharil's colleague.
Attempts to interview the victim’s family members were unsuccessful.
