IPOH: What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation for a family from Dubai ended in tragedy when a pregnant woman and her 13-year-old daughter perished in a car crash here.
The deceased woman, Hajar Ahmad Al Tanajy, 34, died at the Tapah hospital, while her daughter Mira Ali died on the way to the hospital.
The incident occurred at about 1.30pm on Sunday at KM335.9 of the North South Expressway near Tapah.
Tapah OCPD Supt Somsak Din Keliau said there seven in the vehicle, including the driver from Yemen, travelling in a rented Perodua Alza from Kuala Lumpur headed to Penang when the incident took place.
He said the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the divider in the middle of the expressway.
“After hitting the divider the car spun a few times before coming to a halt on the emergency lane.
“Due to the impact of the crash, the 13-year-old girl was flung out of the vehicle,” he added.
Supt Somsak said the Yemeni driver, Musleh Hamid Abdo, was believed to have gone into hiding after the incident.
